Why join a club? |

|
Hi, we just joined the club and possibly are the basic new member – we enjoy riding our BMW on Sundays! Seems to me there are many types of members that would join a BMW club – enthusiasts who know the history, makes and models, social Sunday members like us and of course people who want to be seen with cool people such as BMW owners – hee hee! What can the club do to get you participating? There are really two possibilities for participating – meetings and events. Garry, another new member, suggested that we try a meeting at a Chinese Restaurant. Grab the good lady and have an early night out with some laughs – would you like to give this a try? Events can range from a Sunday run to weekends away. Maybe even once in a while, a week away. Sunday runs will typically be 150 – 300 k’s with a morning coffee stop, good quality but inexpensive lunch and more cake. We would prefer to have two Sunday runs a month and have volunteered to organize a couple…. What do you want in a Sunday excursion? |
We should watch out for events such as a “fund raising” by some country town and have a run there, display the bikes for a couple of hours and then back home – sounds like some fun and a great day out. Poker & observation runs are a tad harder on a motorcycle but feasible, have you got any ideas about an event but not the time to organize them,,, let us know as a volunteer is already arranged. Camping weekends seem to be popular. We are not too sure, but will give it ago. Are there people interested in an occasional motel / cabin option as well? What about other activities. e.g. If someone got their hands on a copy of “The Fastest Indian” would that make the basis for a late Saturday BBQ … Please email in any suggestion on club meetings or events that you think may help attract fun people… maybe we should put “No serious people allowed”! How often should members attend meetings and events? The answer is – “When they want to”. I have been in clubs where you had to attend a certain number of events, it was not a successful club – clubs are |
fun, people will participate if there is fun, when they have time. We all go through stages of not having time. How do we tell people about this club? For the club to expand and have more events that cater for a range of wishes then it needs to attract new people. BMW visiting cards left on bikes is good. Newspaper adverts are possibly better but expensive. Morgan & Whacker and Ray Peke service centers are the most likely – we need a stack of one page flyers to be given to each and ask for them to be distributed… Yes?
I once used the Personal Column in the Bulletin to get a
club started …. “White BMW wishes to meet “K” series for outings – no
objection to spouses – GC BMW M/C Club” or “Twins, big lungs, wish to meet
BMW single or multi for rides – GC BMW M/C Club”…. It worked last time …
I’m happy to pay for a couple if we decided to try this ….its amazing how
many people look at this column! Send me your adverts – keep it
borderline! mclister99@bigpond.com |
