In March we had the added bonus of two in a row. Sunday the 12th saw nine of us leave the Coast for Toowong where we enjoyed a fabulous morning tea compliments of Kim & Yvonne. The cakes were absolutely scrumptious. The destination for the day was the Maryvale Hotel for lunch. Our hosts escorted us via some highways and secondary roads to a point on the Cunningham Highway where we turned off half a kilometre to the Hotel. Parked out front were members of the Warrego Riders and with our contingent made thirteen bikes. The couple who ran the majestic (for the area) isolated two story pub were busy preparing the $5 lunches for the group which meant that there was nobody at the bar so we had to wait a while for a refreshing drink. With other patrons to satisfy they really had a busy day but they both came out to wave us off when we left. Thanks to Kim & Yvonne for a great day.

The two ride days in March to
Maryvale Hotel and Queen Mary Falls were excellent rides
and well attended. Many thanks to Kim & Yvonne for putting
on a terrific morning tea before escorting us to the
Maryvale Pub for lunch. We met up with the Warrego Riders
on both occasions and it was a good opportunity to catch
up with them as many of them have joined our ranks.

Numbers attending the Tinny Rally on 12/13th August were down on last year although 234 participants made the trip to Tingoora. It was a great day for the run up on Saturday morning with clear skies and crisp cool air. One has to feel for the farmers in the area though. It has been so dry that the crops failed this year for lack of rain. Not long after pitching the tent Alan & Cath arrived followed by Ken Manteit. Rob Wynne on his trike and caravan joined us early in the afternoon. Also in our group was Neil Ross from Maryborough who is back on his bike after a few years of convalescence after an accident. And of course Peter Mole, always an early arrival on the Friday, was camped nearby.

Sunday, the 19th March our group of twelve met at Canungra before heading off to Boonah. Whilst some took a coffee break, a number of the Warrigo Riders plus a few from Jimboomba arrived. Our destination for the day, Queen Mary Falls. It was an interesting ride up through varying countryside from forest to open plains and farming regions. An obligatory stop was made at the lookout where one could observe the waterfall across what seemed a bottomless ravine. There had been a massive landslide beside the falls at some stage where masses of earth, rock and everything else had fallen away. Continuing upwards, one had to be careful on the switchbacks for two reasons. Firstly the undergrowth was high along the edge of the narrow road which it made it difficult to see very far into the corners and secondly the 4WD’s which always seem to take up more than their share of the roadway. A few of the GS boys found some dirt and creek crossings to play in before meeting up with the rest of us for lunch at the café. It was an excellent rollup for the day with twenty-six in attendance. After lunch and a quick look at the falls it was time to head for home. Some went back via Woodenbong and Legume and vowed never to go that way again because of the rough conditions whilst the rest of us followed the Toowoomba boys back to the Cunningham Highway. That meant riding through Cunninghams Gap two Sundays running but was an opportunity to have another look at the landslides which had recently taken place.
Since late last year we have had a number of new members (owners) plus their wives/partners join us. We hope you all enjoy your time with the club.
The temperature was quite mild
compared to previous years with the lack of frost making a
pleasant Sunday morning. Each year the proceeds are
donated to a charity so this year the beneficiary was the
Wondai Kindergarten. |
Sunday, 9th April. Our group of sixteen including two visitors met at the Shell Mudgeeraba for a casual day out with lunch at the Canungra Valley Winery. David & Elizabeth were our hosts for the day. They took us through the hinterland to the picnic spot at Beechmont. The views, to the Numinbah Valley below are well worth a stop. Here we were treated to morning tea of very tasty home baked chocolate muffins. Thanks Elizabeth. The hang-gliders were not out and about as the breeze was practically non-existent. One chap made an attempt but ended up on top of a ridge half way down the slope. The Canungra Valley Vineyards nestled in the peaceful Canungra Valley, are owned and operated by the O’Reilly family, legendary in hospitality for over 90 years. The historic Queenslander homestead, built in 1895 at Warwick, was moved to the present site approximately eight years ago and now houses the cellar door and restaurant. We were treated to our own exclusive wine tasting prior to lunch with some of their internationally award winning wines. Apparently 50% of the wine is produced from grapes on the property whilst the remainder is from the Granite Belt. We lunched on the verandah but one can also enjoy a casual picnic by the creek which is home to a family of platypus. Music was provided by two lads, one playing a keyboard and the other a xylophone. Another great day out. Thanks to David & Elizabeth. The Sec.
